I have to hand it to Joe Douglas.
He did well with the limited cap space he had to work with. He was able to do so well because his biggest signings, Tyron Smith and Mike Williams, come with huge injury risks.
Smith is an All-Pro and future Hall of Fame tackle, but he’s also an injury-prone player. In 2020 Smith only played 2 games and in 2022 he only played in 4 games. Smith hasn’t played more than 13 games in a season since 2016.
Williams is a perfect complement to Garrett Wilson as WR2, but he’s also coming off an ACL tear. Williams should be ready to start next season, but who knows what level he will play at.
To be clear, these are risks worth taking for the Jets. If these moves hit they are a home run.
