The Mets have low expectations heading into the 2024 season.
After having World Series expectations in 2022 and 2023, the Mets are projected to be more like a .500 team this season.
That doesn’t mean the Mets can’t have a successful season.
Thanks to the expanded playoff format, there’s a good chance 85 wins will get you a wildcard berth. I expect the Mets to be around that 85-win mark and in contention for the duration of the season.
David Stearns has built a high-floor/low-ceiling type of team. He has signed defense- first players and built what should be a good bullpen with improved depth.
The Mets have a rotation filled with average starters who should keep the Mets in most games. It’s not a great rotation but it’s also a rotation that won’t kill you most nights.
Add it all up and it looks like a team with a floor of 77 wins and a ceiling of 87 wins.
