Mets Opening Day roster projection
With stat predictions, interesting notes from Baseball Prospectus
We finally made it.
Mets baseball is back on TV this Saturday. I thought I’d take a look at who is likely to make the Opening Day roster and give some stat predictions. I used Baseball Prospects’ 2024 season preview and will include some interesting notes they have on each player.
C Francisco Alvarez
Maybe the Mets’ most promising young player. He was very streaky last year, hopefully the Mets can get more consistency out of him this year. Alvarez is already a huge plus for the Mets at just 22 years old.
His defense in particular was outstanding. Baseball Prospectus graded him at +10.1 runs prevented. His pitch framing is already some of the best in MLB, while his throwing could use some work. He graded at -0.6 throwing runners out.
He has the potential for 30+ homers and to give Pete Alonso the protection he needs in the lineup.
Stat prediction: .235/.315/.450 with 30 homers.
