Steve Cohen finally got his white whale.
After nearly 3 years of searching for his president of baseball operations, Cohen was finally able to hire the guy he wanted all along, David Stearns. Cohen stayed patient and wouldn’t settle for anyone else.
Stearns is widely praised around baseball, he had great success in Milwaukee with a lot less to work with than he’ll have in New York. He built Milwaukee into a consistent winner, and over the last five seasons, they made the playoffs four times. The one year they missed they were a game out.
What Stearns does best is find pitching. He has had a ton of success in Milwaukee acquiring and developing pitching. Look at the top of the Brewers rotation, it’s stacked.
Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Freddy Peralta were all developed and acquired under Stearns’ front office.
The Mets need several starting pitchers for 2024, Stearns will have to work his magic.
